Wherever you go in town, you see the name Howard Gardiner Cushing. After the artist died at the age of 47, his friend Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney raised the funds to build the Howard Gardiner Cushing Gallery in 1919 at the Newport Art Museum. With some minor tweaks, Lido House could have easily garnered top marks, but still – an 8 out of 10 ain’t bad. The hotel’s outdoor pool was hemmed in by the hotel, but was still a great place to relax and soak up the sun.
